ROLE GUIDE
Instructor manual
Manage your own classes and publish clear class-status advisories.
1. Account access
Choose Instructor on the public sign-in page, then Register if you do not have an account. Select Instructor as the account type and enter your name, unique email, School ID and a confirmed password of at least 12 characters, then wait for Admin approval. Sign in through the Instructor portal using registered email or School ID, password and CAPTCHA. Other-role credentials, inactive accounts and disabled demos are refused. There is no public Admin registration.
2. Create and manage your sections
- Open Dashboard → Managed classes, or Sections.
- Use the existing create form to enter course code, section code/name, meeting days, start/end times and room as requested. Correct any validation errors before submitting.
- Open a section you own. Use Edit section for its details; review the saved schedule and any schedule-review warning.
- Use the section shortcuts for Post class status, Students, Join requests and Status history.
You cannot manage a different Instructor's section. A visible item that returns access denied should be reported to the owner for investigation; changing account or section ownership is not a workaround.
3. Review students and requests
The Students roster lists approved enrolled students' names and School IDs with an approved-student count. The empty state means no approved members. Review pending Join requests and choose Approve or Decline only for students who should access that class. Existing membership states determine visibility and notification eligibility.
Admin can read the approved roster but cannot publish or decide membership on your behalf through those controls. Students and unrelated Instructors do not gain roster access.
4. Publish and maintain class status
- Choose Face-to-face, Asynchronous, Delayed or Cancelled.
- Add an optional explanatory note. Expected class start (optional) is available for Face-to-face, Delayed and Asynchronous; leave it blank if unknown. You may announce tonight that tomorrow’s class starts at 7:00 AM. Cancelled does not retain an expected start.
- Submit Post class status. Publication is immediate, even if the expected class start is tomorrow. Approved members receive an in-app notification including a supplied estimate; no SMS or push delivery is promised. The estimate neither changes the regular schedule nor triggers a later automatic status update.
- Review the current notice and Status history. History filters use the original publication date, not the expected class start.
Editing a post changes its note, not its original status or publication time. Remove actions open a confirmation screen: Cancel does not submit deletion; the final confirmation removes the selected record. A removed status post stays removed; the preceding surviving post can become current.
5. Removal, reports and account care
Removing a section requires confirmation and hides it from active lists. Existing membership and history records are retained. Only Admin can restore it from Removed sections when its owner is eligible; restoring a section does not approve memberships or revive individually removed posts.
Reports provides your scoped Transaction and My activity reports, validated filters, print preview and PDF subject to limits. “Transactions” means class-status publications, not payments. Reports do not grant access to other Instructors' private records.
Profile provides permitted identity changes and current-password-confirmed password changes. Forgot password uses the registered email, including accounts normally accessed by School ID. Shared demo identities/passwords cannot be changed or recovered, and demo access depends on grading mode. Use Sign out on shared devices.
Help and limits
Help retains the PRD and TRD alongside this manual. ClassSignal advises from your publications; it does not automatically determine cancellations, track attendance or send institutional SMS. This guide describes source-reviewed behavior, not independently verified hosting behavior. The illustrated submission manual still requires real screenshots and captions.
